Here in the Emirates with living in a rented flat or room in a high rise building, it can be difficult to keep pets. Unless you are living in a villa with a somewhat spacious garden or don't mind your pet getting into your shoe closet, there won't be much space for your pet to get exercise. Taking them outdoors is not easy too as there isn't really any parks for pets to roam freely.
Growing up having pets, I kind of miss having one thus we decided to get ourselves a pet fish. I think it's the easiest pet to care for. All you need to do really is to remember to feed them once a day, change the water bowl water once a week and that's it. We first had a couple of gold fishes but they died a couple of weeks later - I guess a fish bowl isn't a condusive environment for them, they need a big tank with an aerator. After their demise *sniff* we ask the pet store attendant which fish can survive in a fish bowl without any oxygen apparatus and he suggested a fighting fish.
We got a dark red one, he (I assumed it's a he) had the 'fiercest' color of all the fighting fish available for sale and named him Barney - after Neil Patrick Harris' character on the series How I Meet Your Mother.
Barney might not be as active as dogs who come bounding and licking your face when you come home but I get the feeling that he recognises me when I come near the fish bowl because he swims in a frenzy and that is enough to make me smile and love my pet more.

Georgia freezes opposition footballer's bank funds
TBILISI (Reuters) - A Georgian court froze the bank accounts of retired footballer and opposition leader Kakha Kaladze in a money-laundering probe on Friday that opponents foes of President Mikhail Saakhshvili's government say is a campaign of legal harassment.
The football star, who won the Champions League twice with Italy's AC Milan, will stand against the ruling party in October parliamentary polls as part of a newly formed Georgian Dream coalition led by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Ivanishvili, 56, whose fortune is estimated at $6.4 billion by Forbes magazine, has united and breathed new life into the fractured opposition in the Caucasus state of 4.5 million, angering the government, which still leads opinion polls.
"It's obvious that it's a political persecution," Maya Panjikidze, a spokeswoman for Georgian Dream, said of the latest case to dog the opposition coalition.
"We consider the court's decision as illegal," she said.
Georgia's chief prosecutor's office said in a statement that Kaladze was under suspicion after he received $6 million on his bank account and then withdrawn 1.6 million lari ($97,000) "in a short period of time".
Saakashvili became the West's darling when he rose to power after the bloodless "rose revolution" that toppled Eduard Shevardnadze in 2003. But opponents have since accused him of curbing political freedom and criticize him for leading Georgia into a brief, disastrous war with Russia in August 2008.
In the latest twist in the standoff between Saakashvili's government and his foes, a Georgian court on Friday released assets seized from Ivanishvili after he paid a $49 million fine.
Ivanishvili's Cartu Bank, JSC Cartu Group, and a 21.7-percent share in Progress Bank were seized in June after the billionaire refused to pay a multi-million dollar fine.
At the time, Ivanishvili argued it was illegal to confiscate the assets, saying he had passed all shares in the companies to his son. State authorities, however, said the asset transfer had not been registered with the Georgian National Bank.
Ivanishvili paid the 80-million-lari fine earlier this week, but maintained the penalty was "illegal".
A once-reclusive tycoon, Ivanishvili and his family have come under the state scrutiny in a myriad of cases since he launched a political movement last year.

Fallen branches, dead trees and old stumps should be removed only after most of the green growth has been cleared out. This ensures safety and reveals exactly what has to be done. Chainsaws are a practical choice for cutting thick branches, unwanted hedges and trees. It is also convenient to use chainsaws to break down larger materials that might have settled on the ground such as old wooden fencing. Some specialty equipment might be needed such as a stump grinder or a wood chipper in order to remove larger obstructions that are difficult to manage.
Reclaim The Area

High blood pressure, medically known as hypertension, affects 73 million Americans. A common misconception is that those with hypertension are excessively nervous or stressed out. In my practice, this is actually one of the most common questions that I am asked by a new patient. So I'll say it publicly. Hypertension is a disease. You cannot develop hypertension by being "stressed out." Numerous studies have examined animals and humans subjected to stress and have not found that stress leads to hypertension.
What Exactly Is Hypertension?
Although it contains the word "tension," what hypertension really means is that you have blood pressure high enough to cause damage to your organs. "Blood pressure" is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the kidneys, heart and blood vessels without any symptoms. When kidneys are injured by elevated blood pressure, the result can be progressive kidney failure.
Your kidneys aren't the only organs hurt by hypertension -- the heart and blood vessels can be targets as well.
When high blood pressure damages the heart, it leads to enlargement and congestive heart failure. The brain is damaged by strokes in patients with hypertension. Blood vessels are damaged, forming aneurysms that may burst and blood vessels in the eyes can be damaged to cause blindness.
What Causes Hypertension?
As is the case with so many other problems, you may have your parents to blame. Most commonly, hypertension is inherited. If you have the genetics, the older you are, the more likely you are to develop hypertension. Hypertension can also be caused by underlying diseases such as kidney disease. So, chronic kidney disease can be both a cause and effect of hypertension. Excess dietary salt intake can also cause hypertension.
Hypertension is also associated with weight gain and obesity, hardening of the arteries, diabetes, sleep apnea and can be caused by many drugs as well as alcohol. So take a deep breath and do try to manage your stress, but know that it's not the root cause of your hypertension.
What Is the Ideal Blood Pressure Number?
The systolic blood pressure is the top number on your blood pressure recording, and this is the pressure that your heart generates with each beat. The diastolic blood pressure is the bottom number, which is the basic resting blood pressure in your vessels at the end of a heartbeat. The target blood pressure for control should be 130/80. In some cases, we recommend a blood pressure to be controlled to 125/75. Some elderly patients and people with hardening of the arteries will have an elevated systolic blood pressure only. We pay the most attention to the systolic blood pressure because that is the pressure that is most associated with organ damage.
How Is Hypertension Diagnosed?
Hypertension is diagnosed when blood pressure is elevated above 140/90 on at least three different occasions at least three months apart. Your blood pressure should be taken while you are seated for at least five minutes, with your arm resting. It should be taken in both arms, but the non-dominant arm should usually be used. So, if you are right handed, it is best to record your blood pressure in your left arm. The blood pressure should be recorded as the average of at least two recordings. If there is a difference between your two arms, the highest blood pressure should generally be recorded.
How Do I Treat Hypertension Without Drugs?
Before popping pills to treat high blood pressure, consider making healthy lifestyle changes. Some of my recommendations include:
- Exercise on a daily basis and maintain an ideal body weight through proper diet. Walk for at least 20 to 30 minutes every day and lift a light weight for 10 to 20 minutes two or three times per week.
- Follow a low-salt diet, such as the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH). The DASH diet emphasizes low salt, high calcium and high potassium intake. Restrict your salt intake to no more than (gasp!) 2,300 milligrams (or 1 teaspoon) of sodium per day.
- Take your blood pressure at home once or twice a month to make sure your blood pressure is controlled to your doctor's suggested target.
- Ask your doctor about any over-the-counter drugs that you take to make sure they do not cause your blood pressure to become elevated.
What Is "White Coat" Hypertension?
You have probably heard about the phenomenon known as office or "white coat" hypertension. This diagnosis is made when someone has normal blood pressures at home, but high blood pressure when recorded in the doctor's office or another health care setting. This type of hypertension does not necessarily need to be treated, but it should be carefully followed with home blood pressure recordings.
What if My Blood Pressure Cannot Be Kept Under Control With Lifestyle Changes?
There are many drugs that doctors use to control blood pressure. Your doctor usually selects the one or two that fit your risk vs. benefit profile. NAFCU Compliance Blog: National Flood Insurance Program ...

In our July 11th blog, we mentioned that President Obama signed a long-term reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), extending the program through September 30, 2017.? In addition to the five-year extension, the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 (Act), which can be found here starting on page 521, contains additional provisions impacting credit unions.
Here are a few highlights that caught my eye:
- Increased Penalties.? The Act increases civil money penalties that can be assessed against lenders for failure to comply with flood insurance requirements.? The Act sets forth a penalty of $2,000 per violation and removes the penalty cap.
- Mandatory Escrow.? The Act contains a provision requiring lenders to escrow flood insurance payments.? The requirement applies to ?any mortgage outstanding or entered into on or after the expiration of the 2-year period beginning on the date of enactment of this Act.? (Section 100209(b)).? There is a limited exemption for institutions with assets of less than $1,000,000,000 that meet certain additional criteria.
- Disclosures.? Notification will be required under RESPA that flood insurance is available under the NFIP or from a private insurance company, whether or not the real estate is located in an area having special flood hazards.
- Force-Placed Insurance.? The Act requires lenders to release a force-placed policy within 30 days of receipt of confirmation of a borrower?s flood insurance coverage and refund premiums for the period during which the force-placed policy and the borrower?s policy were both in effect.
- Premium Subsidies.???Provision of the Act also phase out certain federal premium subsidies, and prohibits subsidies for any property not previously insured by the NFIP or with a lapsed flood insurance policy.? These changes could impact member?s flood insurance premiums for second home loans, refinances, as well as other loans.
FEMA has indicated that guidance on the NFIP implementation will be provided in future bulletins.

Even before the XXX. Olympic Games really get started in London on 27 July, economists of the Ruhr-Universitt Bochum have dared to forecast the final medals table without taking into consideration the training status of the participating athletes. Based on the assessment of numerous statistical data, they forecast that China, USA, and Russia will top the score table with 102, 100, and 71 medals, respectively. Furthermore, they expect that the British will take home more medals than before (57), Brazil (28) increases its medal standing in anticipation of the games being held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, whereas the German team will win 12 % fewer medals and slide down to 36 medals in the medals table. The calculations of the Bochum economists indicate that forecasts are possible by applying econometric models. They have entered political, economic, demographic and cultural data into their model and have retrospectively 'forecast' the medals table of previous games. The forecast is amazing: It correlates up to 97.4 % with the actual medals table of participating countries of the Athens games in 2004 and up to 96.9 % of the Beijing games in 2008.
Everyone looks at the medals table
What is important during the Olympic Games is not only the personal success of individual athletes, but also the competition of the individual countries; everyone looks at the medals table, the investment in success by the participating countries. Before the 2008 Games in Beijing, China dedicated more than US$ 4.5 billion in supporting sports, in order to replace the USA as a 'sports superpower', which is an enormous investment. In recent years, the British government also considerably increased spending in anticipation of the 2012 Olympics by investing and supporting top athletes. However, it is not money alone that influences which nation ultimately will be at the top. Populous countries have a larger number of talented and therefore successful athletes than small countries; wealthy countries can spend more money on their athletes than countries with comparatively low per capita income, which find it difficult to operate efficient support systems for talented athletes. Moreover, there are countries of which one would not have expected great successes, such as Jamaica in 2008 in Beijing. Ultimately, political systems have an influence on success: countries with socialist systems or a socialist past were more successful in collecting medals.
The success of women depends on emancipation and tradition
In addition, the Bochum-based economists have looked separately at the medal scores of women and men. Women from countries with emancipated societies and equal opportunities in the workforce are more successful in the Olympics than those who come from societies with a patriarchal character. In the applied model, the position of women in society is measured by various factors. Women's labour force participation rate, the fertility rate, the number of years since women had the right to vote, and an indicator for countries in which Islam is the main religion were found to be significant influencing factors in the analysis.
The famous home advantage and the climate
Ultimately, the famous home advantage also comes into play. The respective host country has increased chances of success and athletes of the future host country profit from the early expansion of athletic support in their home country when preparing for their own role as host. Climatic conditions of the home country also have an effect on the athletes' medals success. Because of their poor training conditions, athletes from countries with an extreme climate are disadvantaged compared to participants from moderate climate zones, especially with respect to outdoor sports.

Based on the results of the empirical analysis, a forecast for the number of medals potentially won by the participating nations in the 2012 Olympics can be predicted.
