'Parks and Recreation' renewed by NBC

By Tim Kenneally

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - NBC has given another season to its sitcom "Parks and Recreation."

The series, which stars Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, among others, ended its fifth season May 2. The season finale drew a 1.5 rating/4 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic - up 15 percent from the previous week's episode, but down 12 percent from the previous season's finale.

Offerman coyly broke news of the renewal on his Twitter account, writing Thursday, "Notes: - one does not 'whittle' a canoe. - one propels a Canoe with a paddle, not an oar. - 'Parks and Rec' has been picked up for Season 6.

In addition to the "Parks and Recreation" renewal, NBC picked up a handful of pilots on Thursday, including the comedies "About a Boy," "Sean Saves the World" (starring "Will & Grace" alum Sean Hayes) and "The Family Guide."

The J.J. Abrams-produced drama "Believe" and the conspiracy drama "Crisis" were also picked up.

On Wednesday, the network canceled its freshman drama "Deception" and passed on several pilots, including the high profile "Hatfields and McCoys," a contemporary retelling of the famous family feud that was produced by Charlize Theron.
