Biggest Celebrity Home Sales of 2012 | Zillow Blog

It isn?t a wrap-up of the year without a look at home sales?? and in particular, celebrity home sales. From January to December, we?ve rounded up the most expensive celebrity real estate deals of 2012, starting at No. 10.

10. $11 Million, Tory Burch?s Hamptons Teardown

Eleven million is a steep sum for most people, but in Tory Burch?s Hamptons neighborhood, the price tag was a significant cut and a point of tension for some surrounding neighbors. Burch actually bought the home for $22.5 million, and most homes in the area are worth that or more. But after some water damage to the property, the home was classified as a ?teardown,? which justified the major discount.

9. $11 Million, Ryan Seacrest?s Home

The ?American Idol? host (as well as producer, radio and TV personality) first listed the home in 2010 for $14.95 million and then decided to take it off the market for a year. When he did relist the home, he listed it pretty privately ? releasing just one photo of the 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom, 8,172-square-foot Hollywood Hills home publicly.

8. $12 Million, Eddie Murphy?s New Jersey Home

As we?ve seen with many of the big sales this year, celebrities tend to buy from each other. Such is the case with Eddie Murphy?s home, which he sold to Alicia Keys. Murphy?s home in Englewood, NJ occupies two parcels and was originally listed for a whopping $30 million before it dropped a few price brackets down to the $12 million Keys paid. The 25,000-square-foot home is more than enough room for Keys, her husband and toddler son.

7. $12.8 Million, Ricky Martin?s Miami Beach Manse

This was the third Florida mansion Ricky Martin sold off before he made his move to New York. Although he suffered a loss on the Mediterranean masterpiece?? he paid $16.25 million in 2007 ? he was still able to pick up a new condo in New York recently. Martin?s former 8,600-square-foot mansion has 4 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen and an 108-foot private beach.

6. $13 Million, Ellen DeGeneres? Malibu Home

The successful talk-show host is a fickle real estate buyer. Ellen DeGeneres bought a mid-century Malibu home from Brad Pitt in December 2011?for $12 million, but by June?she was already done with Pitt?s castoff and sold the home quietly for $13 million. The bluff-top home sits on 1.26 acres with spectacular views of the beach and ocean beyond.

5. $15.5 Million, Derek Jeter?s Trump Penthouse

Derek Jeter?s bachelor pad first hit the market in 2010 with an asking price close to $20 million. Jeter relisted the place in 2012 with a lower price tag and snagged a buyer in October, according to property records. Jeter bought the Manhattan home directly from Donald Trump in 2001 for $12.72 million.

4. $16 Million, Nicole Kidman?s Condo

Nicole Kidman never lived in the gorgeous condo overlooking the Hudson River. The Aussie bought the West Village apartment after her 2001 divorce from actor Tom Cruise but became disenchanted with the condo after the construction of a nearby tower partially blocked what were supposed to be unobstructed views. She first listed the home for rent at $45,000 a month?and then finally sold it in August 2012.

3. $18.1 Million, Michael Jackson?s Final Home

The King of Pop didn?t own this gorgeous Beverly Glen estate, but he was renting it as he prepared for his worldwide tour. Grandeur is what drew Jackson to the 17,000-square-foot French chateau-style estate with 7 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a theater, wine cellar with tasting room, elevator, 14 fireplaces, a spacious spa with gym and a large swimming pool. The home sold in early November, after it was first listed for $23.9 million.

2. $19.5 Million, Adrienne Maloof?s Home

Usually it takes quite awhile for a home priced over $10 million to sell, but Adrienne Maloof?s home in Beverly Glen sold in about a month. Originally priced at $26 million, the home passed to a new owner for $19.5 million, according to property records. The 12,882-square-foot home comes with all the trimmings, including 7 bedrooms, 9 baths, tennis court, media room, wine cellar, swimming pool with pool house and a guest house.

1. $49 Million, Ellen DeGeneres? Beverly Hills Home

Undoubtedly the biggest sale of the year, and likely one of the biggest celebrity sales for a while ? or a least until Gianni Versace?s former estate goes to a buyer ? was Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi?s custom estate going to Ryan Seacrest for $49 million. The Bevelry Hills compound measures a full city block with a gated drive leading to the mid-century modern house, high-end security, a pool, tennis court and guest houses.
